Challenging and innovative RPG
As Isaac, son of a magician raised by a forest witch, you discover the world of magic.

In Lost Magic, you fight by drawing runes. The tighter you draw the rune, the stronger your attack. However, while drawing, you are vulnerable to attacks, so it requires some consideration. Also, moving your character with the stylus may take some getting used to. Practice makes perfect though, so you'll get the hang of it quickly enough.

Not groundbreaking but still enjoyable is the ability to capture monsters that you can then have fight for you. Capturing them can be quite a challenge as the line between catchable and dead is quite thin. Furthermore, this game is truly nintendo-hard and has a fairly steep learning curve. All in all, a fun RPG that offers a different gameplay experience.

Innovative Spell System, But Repetitive Battles and Linear Story
Lost Magic on the Nintendo DS is a bit of a strange RPG, but that’s what makes it interesting. When I draw spells on the touchscreen with my stylus, it feels like I’m actually casting magic. A refreshing concept that you don’t come across often. However, I soon noticed that the battles became repetitive. The unique spell-drawing system loses some of its charm because of this.

The game has a linear setup, which isn’t always very exciting for an RPG. There’s little room to go on adventures or discover new paths. The story is quite standard and offers no surprises. This means the game doesn’t really stick with you. For an RPG lover like me, that’s a bit disappointing.

Despite the fact that Lost Magic has a fun concept, the rest of the game unfortunately falls short. It feels like a missed opportunity. The potential of the magical drawing system could have been better utilised in a more adventurous and surprising game. Still, it’s an interesting experience for anyone looking to try something new on the Nintendo DS.

Product Description

Hello there, Fantastic gamers! Mr. M here, and I'm absolutely thrilled to tell you all about Lost Magic for the Nintendo DS! Wowie! This game is a unique blend of role-playing and real-time strategy, developed by Taito and published by Ubisoft. In Lost Magic, you play as a young magician named Isaac, who must save the world by drawing magical runes on the DS touchscreen. How cool is that?!

You can combine over 350 different spells by mixing these runes. That means endless possibilities and strategies to defeat your enemies! The game offers both an immersive single-player adventure and exciting multiplayer battles. And that makes me super happy!

Historical Context

Lost Magic was released in 2006 and was one of the first games to fully utilize the DS touchscreen. It was a time when developers were experimenting with new ways to harness the unique features of the DS. The game was well-received and is known for its innovative gameplay mechanics. It even received a spiritual successor in the form of the game "Avalon Code"!

When I'm Not Working...

When I'm not assisting customers at MarioDS.nl, I love to indulge in a game of Lost Magic myself. Just imagine me in the world of Lost Magic, alongside my best friends Yoshi and Luma! We would make an amazing team, with Yoshi defeating enemies with his tongue and Luma protecting us with her star power. And me? I would, of course, be drawing the magical runes to invoke powerful spells. That would be truly Fantastic!
