You can defeat Ash Ketchum!
A very fun game. In terms of story, it differs quite a lot because you now play on 2 maps but the story is usually the same. You still have to catch Pokémons, defeat the gyms, and ultimately the Elite 4. The cool thing about Pokémon SoulSilver Version is that the Pokémon you select first just walks behind you! Eventually, you can also defeat the one and only Ash Ketchum with the team he has in the TV series. In short, a fantastic game with good quality!

The best Pokémon game!
Graphically, Pokémon SoulSilver looks much better than its predecessor Silver. This version features new music but also the option to enable old music like in the past. Additionally, old rivals make a comeback such as Green (Gary) and two regions to explore, Kanto and Johto. For the old school Pokémon fan, this is the game you must have. The two best regions with the best cast and the classic Team Rocket. Of course, there is also the option to catch many more Pokémon than in the previous games.

The best Pokémon game of them all!
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver are, for many very good reasons, the best Pokémon games of them all. Get ready because this review is going to be long, and I will try not to give any spoilers.

I played HeartGold when I was 7-8 years old, and what I thought was the coolest back then was the fact that you could explore 2 regions and therefore collect 8 badges twice (which is unique in generation 2 and its remakes). A few months ago, I ordered SoulSilver from this site. I was happy that 6 years later I could relive this experience once again.

Besides being able to explore 2 regions, there are many (unique) features in these games. Let's start with the very best. In Pokémon SoulSilver Version, the Pokémon in the 1st slot of your party walks behind you (as long as you're not cycling, this doesn't happen in some buildings). This feature motivated me even more to complete the Pokédex, as I was curious to see how each Pokémon looked in the overworld. Another fun fact: If you have a Shiny Pokémon, it will also be Shiny in the overworld. As a Shiny hunter, I think this is really cool! Next, there is the Safari Zone, in this game it is much larger than in other games. You can also place your own objects to personalize it. Those objects can also attract new Pokémon, some appear the same day, while others only show up after a certain number of days. Something else I find cool that is not unique to these games is that you can rematch gym leaders and that the Elite 4 and the champion become stronger after a certain time. There is also a very strong trainer on Mt. Silver, but to avoid spoilers, I won't mention who it is. Even after you finish the game, there are many other things you can do. The most famous is probably the Battle Frontier. This is a place with 5 different battle facilities: Battle Tower, Castle (my personal favorite), Hall, Factory (a close 2nd for me), and the Battle Arcade (also quite fun). They all involve fighting and winning, but in different ways. For example, at the Battle Factory, you rent Pokémon, and at the Battle Castle, you have to be smart with Castle Points (CP) to, for example, heal your Pokémon. By fighting here, you earn Battle Points (BP) that you can spend on certain items. The Pokéathlon is also fun (you can do this even before finishing the game). There is one thing that I don't (anymore) like about this game, and that actually applies to all generation 4 and 5 Pokémon games, and that is the discontinuation of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. You might think that I could still enjoy it on my HeartGold, but that's not the case. I remember always asking if I could get Wi-Fi that also worked on my DS, but it didn't.

Well, that's it. I once again feel like this is more of a review than a rating. There is just so much to say about these masterpieces. Besides the last thing I mentioned, I still find the games very good and they definitely deserve a 10 from me!

One of the best Pokémon games ever made
Pokémon Soul Silver (and Heart Gold!) are incredibly good games. It was the first Pokémon game I played and also immediately the best. I would love to play it again, and then again, and then one more time...
The graphics of the fourth generation of Pokémon games are amazing, and coupled with a strong story and plenty to do, it really is a super fun game. The post-game (after defeating the Elite 4) is extensive. You can travel to Kanto and challenge the gym leaders there too! You actually get two shorter Pokémon regions instead of one large one, so there is a lot of variety and the game doesn't get boring.

The best
Cool edition of Pokémon. I've played many Pokémon games, but this is truly the best. Beautiful effects and specials. Fun Pokéwalker included. A nice extra if you know how it works.

Which essential Pokémon can be found on Route 32 and why are they so useful?
XD

After defeating Falkner in Violet City, you need to head to Azalea Town to battle Bugsy. You will travel through Route 32 where you can encounter a Mareep. Mareep is a very useful Electric-type Pokémon. It will assist you against Chuck's Poliwrath, Pryce's Seel and Dewgong, Clair, Misty, Blue's Gyarados and Pidgeot, Will's Slowbro, Lance, and Red's Charizard, Blastoise, and Lapras.

How can I catch Heracross early in the game?
Le_jordy

16 jaar
You can catch Heracross after the 2nd gym in Pokémon SoulSilver Version, and this Pokémon is a great addition to your team. It will help you defeat the 3rd gym, among other things. You can catch it by using the move headbutt on a tree (you get headbutt in the Ilex Forest after defeating the 2nd gym). It can be a bit tricky to find because its encounter rate is quite low. Its catch rate is also quite low, so try to have as many Poké Balls with you as possible.

Cheats and Codes:
How can I manipulate Pokémon swarms in Pokémon SoulSilver Version?
Axtasma
1902
After defeating the Elite 4 for the first time, a swarm of a specific Pokémon will appear every day. You can determine which swarm it is by listening to Professor Oak's radio show in Pokémon SoulSilver Version. If it's a swarm you don't want, save your game and go to your DS settings. Set the time to 23:59 and quickly restart your game. Wait until it's 0:00 and tune in to Oak's radio show. If it's the swarm you desire, congratulations. If not, repeat the process. To summarize the process: Save your game, access your system settings, set the time to 23:59, restart your game, and when it's 0:00, listen to Oak's radio show.

Cheats and Codes:
How often can a Togekiss with the ability Serene Grace make the opponent flinch?
Axtasma
1902
A Togekiss with the ability Serene Grace is no joke. If you have one and teach it the move Air Slash (via the Move Relearner in Blackthorn City) and make it attack first (the Quick Claw can be handy if needed), you have a 60% chance that the opponent will flinch and therefore not be able to attack. This 60% chance is because Air Slash has a 30% chance of making the opponent flinch. This chance doubles due to the ability Serene Grace. Pokémon SoulSilver Version is the best choice for this because it also has a base 125 special attack (which is high). So, a Togekiss is very useful for your team, and it can also learn Fly.

Secrets:
How can I rematch the Gym Leaders after collecting all 16 badges?
Axtasma
1902
After collecting all 16 badges, you can challenge the Gym Leaders again, but first, you need to do certain things. The Gym Leaders are away from their Gyms at specific times on certain days of the week. They can be found in certain locations where you can talk to them to get their phone number. Then, at other specific times, you can call them yourself or wait for them to call you, and they will be waiting in the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City (building next to the Gym). They will stay there until you defeat them. So, you can choose when to do this. Their teams are now stronger and include Pokémon that are not in the Johto Pokédex. Besides having all the badges, there are no further requirements, except for Gym Leader Clair. For her number, you must have already won the double battle against her and Lance. Since listing the times for all 16 Gym Leaders is too much for the table, here is a link to a list on Serebii. It contains the times when the Leaders are away from their Gyms, when you can call them for a rematch, and their updated teams. This is very useful for leveling up your Pokémon a bit more.
